"She looks well to how things go in her household, and the bread of idleness (gossip, discontent, and self-pity) she will not eat."
It's important that we know who comprises our flock, and (for the most part) where that flock is at all times. This is one of the jobs of a good parent/overseer. We don't smother those under our care, but we are asked to concern ourselves with their whereabouts and activities. We do this by asking the proper questions, in the right time, and with the law of kindness on our tongues (Proverbs 31:26).
The Proverbs 31 woman in our text was careful and particular in how she oversaw the daily operations of her family and household. For the most part, she wasn't lazy. She didn't sit around eating junk food and watching television all day everyday; although, once in a while we do need simple days of recuperation and relaxation. But it appears that for her at least, those days were few and far between. She was careful to guard herself from couch-potato-itis. We should be too; while yet remembering that even God took a day of rest. Balance is the key here.
For those households (homes, ministries, business, groups, etc.) that God has asked us to oversee, let's be prayerful to not be slack concerning them. Let's remember to be mindful of how we're structuring them and what we feed ourselves concerning them. Speak the Word of God about them, and over them. Don't feast on the bread of negativity and emptiness (I can't do it; I hate this...), but feed yourself the Bread of Life and you'll be able to enjoy, speak, create, and produce life.
Lord, we thank You for choosing us to overlook children, homes, ministries, groups. . . We appreciate Your confidence in us as good stewards. Thank You. We lift up the activities of these units. We uplift every decision, every relationship and we offer it all to You. Holy Spirit use it for Your glory. We plead the Blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth over every member, and over their every activity and continued involvement. May we always be imitators of You; walking in wisdom and truth, kindness and love, patience and peace, and guidance and instruction. We ask You for the former and latter rains to be poured out among us to help us to continue to fulfill, edify, enrich, and complete the purpose that You have for such an assembly as ours. We bless You, and we thank You for Your hand of grace upon us. In Jesus name. Amen.
